Polish Konik Sanctuary (Milicz Fish Farm)
Milicz
A conservation herd of Polish konik horses and a fish farm on the edge of Milicz — autumn fish harvests with live music.
About
The Polish Konik Sanctuary (Ostoja Konika Polskiego) is a fish farm on the edge of Milicz where a herd of konik horses grazes among the ponds and meadows. The konik is a primitive breed believed to descend from the wild tarpan, with a typical mouse-grey coat. The Milicz Fish Farm (Gospodarstwo Rybackie Milicz) keeps a conservation herd here, and walks to the herd are organised during events.
Every year during the Carp Days festival, spectacular traditional fish harvests take place here, with live music, activities for children and fresh fish to take away or eat on the spot. In 2026 the harvest shows are planned for 3–4 October, 12:00–18:00, free entry (as of 10.2026).
Getting there: take forest road no. 19, which starts at ul. Grzybowa in Milicz — the pin marks the start of this road. The horses roam a large area and aren’t always visible from the road; please stay off the pastures and don’t feed the animals.
