About

Sułów has two historic half-timbered churches, just a few minutes' walk apart. The parish church of Sts Peter and Paul on ul. Kościelna was built in 1731–1734, funded by Joseph von Burghauss and the parishioners, on the site of earlier churches. It has a Latin-cross plan, a west tower and late-Baroque furnishings, and a wooden bell tower of 1837 stands in the churchyard. According to published descriptions, Mannerist gallery panels from around 1595 depicting biblical heroines also survive here.

The second, the Church of Our Lady of Częstochowa on ul. Ogrodowa, was built in 1765–1767 as a Lutheran church (some sources say 1765–1766). Its striking central, octagonal body under a tall roof with a lantern makes it one of the most unusual church buildings in the Barycz Valley.

A cycle path along the embankment of the former narrow-gauge railway runs through Sułów, and the low-rise houses around the little market square are worth a look too. The interiors are usually open during services; the exteriors can be seen at any time.
