Krośnice Palace
Krośnice
The former residence of the von der Recke von Volmerstein family, remodelled in 1927–1929, now the Krośnice municipal office.
About
Krośnice Palace on ul. Sportowa is the heart of the palace and park complex through which the narrow-gauge railway runs. The first single-storey Baroque manor was built around 1785 by the von Reichenbach family. In 1845 the estate was bought by Count Adalbert von der Recke von Volmerstein, who turned the modest manor into a Neo-Renaissance palace; he is also linked to the foundation established in Krośnice that ran an institution for the mentally ill.
The building owes its present look to a 1927–1929 remodelling by the Wrocław architect Hans Thomas, who blended Neoclassicism with modernist elements. After 1945 the palace was looted and later used by a psychiatric hospital and a school for its youngest patients. In 1996 the municipality bought it and, after renovation, moved its offices here.
You view the palace from outside – it is a working municipal office, and its interior is open only for official business during office hours. The nicest way to arrive is by the park railway (Pałac Krośnice stop), combined with a walk in the park.
