About
The Możdżanów fish farm, run by Karol and Grzegorz Girus, covers 320 ha – 30 ponds in three complexes, Możdżanów, Janisławice and Konradów, in the upper Barycz Valley. The ponds date back to the 18th century, and since 1998 the farm has again been independent and privately owned. Its mirror carp, known in Poland as 'royal carp', is raised using the traditional three-year transfer method, and the farm has held the Dolina Baryczy Poleca mark for carp since 2010. Besides carp it offers grass carp, tench, pike, wels catfish, silver carp, crucian carp, ide and perch; carp is sold live or as whole gutted fish, sides and fillets on ice.
The sales season follows the autumn harvest of the ponds: you can buy retail from 15 October to 23 December at the fish stores (Magazyny Rybne) in Janisławice, Sośnie municipality. Możdżanów fish is also served at Karczma Górecznik in Przygodzice, Lido in Antonin, Ptasia Osada in Joachimówka and Między Parkami in Milicz, among others. The pond harvests draw gulls, grey and great egrets and black storks. Wholesale (from 100 kg) is for businesses only.
