About
For more than 30 years the Raftowicz family have raised Milicz carp in Ruda Żmigrodzka through the full three-year cycle, fed on GMO-free grain, along with pike-perch, pike, catfish, tench, grass carp and other species. Before sale the fish are kept in running water, so they have no muddy taste. In the on-site processing room the carp are brined and hot-smoked over beech or alder wood; the smoked carp from Ruda Żmigrodzka won a "Pearl" in the Our Culinary Heritage competition in 2007, among other awards.
The farm at ul. Bielika 1 sells live fish (killed and gutted on site if you wish) all year round, ordered in advance by phone; the main harvest runs from late October through November into early December. Bring your own container for the fish. Smoked carp, in pieces or fillets, can be bought or eaten at the neighbouring Karczma Rybna (ul. Bielika 4) at weekends in season; larger quantities can be ordered by phone for collection at the inn. The farm also sells at local events.
